How to unlock your Beast Mode at work?

by | Oct 7, 2024 | Know-how

Any company has its top-notch talents somewhere, those highly effective best employees, those who are retained differently, paid differently, and who are always treated differently as well because their outcome is different, their dedication and ownership are different, their quality and quantity of work are different, and their interpersonal skills are also different.

Those who are not just technically capable, who don’t just get the job done, who don’t just work hard, who don’t just respect the company and their colleagues, but those who are an added value to the company in every single way.

Choosing to unlock your beast mode and become one of the best employees at any company is itself a choice. If we think about it, who doesn’t want to be one? And yes, that might sound logical. But looking at this from a different angle, the question could be “Who’s working, investing, and developing to become among the top?”

Nevertheless, for some folks, the relationship between the employee and the employer shouldn’t be that complicated, it’s as simple as “Get the job done, and get paid for it” and that’s it. Which is also indeed true!

However, thinking out loud… The purpose of working, investing, and developing ourselves to become among the top-notch employees shouldn’t be just for the sake of winning some extra credit at work, inspiring our managers and colleagues, showing off, and trying to be irreplaceable because believe it or not, companies and employees are both always replaceable! The purpose is to simply become a better person on human, personal, professional, financial, and technical levels. It’s to decide not to be average in whatever you do, it’s to stand out, enjoy your accomplishments, to positively have an impact, and write down your success story at the end of the day.

Without much further ado:

How to unlock your beast mode and become one of the best employees at your company?

Being the best employee at a company requires a combination of a growth mindset, hard/smart work, dedication, ownership, and a positive attitude for both your personal and professional life. So let’s split this into two parts (Non-Work-Related | Work-Related) below:

Here are some Non-Work-Related tips to help you stand out and unlock your beast mode:

1. Get a Life.

  • If you live to work, and you don’t work to live, you will be negatively impacted, you will start to take things more personally, and you will burn out at some point
  • You need to have some serious personal goals that are not related to your career path

2. Plan your day ahead

  • Being organized and knowing your priorities are key, get yourself a calendar or use your notebook
  • Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work — Gustave Flaubert

3. Have a morning & night healthy routine

  • Too much? Less is more then | Start small and make progress

4. Sleep is your superpower

  • You sleep about a third of your entire life, which impacts the other 2/3ds
  • Quality sleep isn’t just a number of slept hours, it has something to do with your night routine too

5. Revisit your daily habits

  • Your subconscious mind copies your habits, and your habits shape your life
  • If you don’t know how much your habits could whether help you win this life or lose it then start reading “Atomic Habits” right now

6. Use your hands

  • In an era of a digital world, using our hands in non-digital stuff has satrted to be rare today
  • Using your hands will help you become a more creative person
  • Use a notebook, write on a white paper, and try not always brainstorm on digital devices, it limits you, you’re just experiencing only one version of yourself

7. Stay hydrated

  • About 60% of our bodies are water, our mind doesn’t function well without proper hydration
  • Try to start your day with two glasses of water, and take it from there

8. Read, read, and read

  • You don’t need to educate yourself in only technical subjects, diversify your knowledge
  • Go get some self-development books, pick the most interesting topics and start reading
  • Start by 10 pages a day, and progress
  • Knowledge is power!

9. Your circle is so important

  • Show me your friends and I will show you your future!
  • Garbage in, garbage out!
  • All of those quotes are undoubtedly true!
  • You’re going to be only as good as the people you surround yourself with

10. Take care of your mental health

  • You have to use your PTO efficiently
  • Travel as much as you can, take a walk, have deep conversations about life, prioritize your well-being, and recharge
  • That will boost you, it will help you be mindful, positive, and successful

You can succeed without the above-mentioned sample points and still be a good employee, but you’ll probably still be an average one, you won’t unlock that beast within you, and you ain’t going to reach that best version of yourself. You have to earn it! You have to do things differently! You have to invest in yourself! You have to take care of your subconscious mind! Also, you can keep adding points that are as important as the above points (Working out, Meditation, etc). You choose your habits and shape your perspective toward them at the end of the day.

You’re gonna need to make it visible, make it attractive, make it easy, and then make it satisfyingly happen. The key isn’t to just start doing stuff in your life, it’s in believing in them along with sustaining them — Then witness the magic happening!

Go ahead and venture through your life, learn, experience different stuff, and share it at work. Our personal lives impact what we do professionally, take this very seriously!

On the other hand, Work-Related, bear in mind the following points:

Make your work visible

  • I have worked with lots of employees who were going above and beyond without anyone knowing, I really respect that “working hard in silence” manner, it pays off sooner or later but it’s also not very fair not to make your work visible
  • Show up, don’t show off
  • Take initiatives, be proactive, raise your hand first, and share knowledge
  • Do it genuinely

Stay classy

  • Dress for success
  • Even if you work remotely, I wouldn’t recommend working is pijamas
  • Make your mind feel like you’re doing something professionally
  • Do it right

Be a team player

  • Collaboration and communication are key to the success of any team, so make sure to work well with others and help out whenever you can
  • Don’t work in silos even if you’re an introvert, you’re only a drop in an ocean on your own
  • Life is meant to be shared

Be reliable and dependable

  • Show up to work on time, complete tasks and assignments in a timely manner, and follow through on commitments
  • It’s okay to compromise at some point, think about the cost-benefit analysis, you need to give something and take something else in return
  • Show support to the organization, your colleagues, and your manager

Know that you’re replaceable

  • Be open to learning and growing
  • No one knows everything, and the best employees are always looking for ways to improve their skills and knowledge

Be positive, and enthusiastic

  • A positive attitude can go a long way in the workplace
  • Show enthusiasm for your work and your team, and try to see the glass as half full rather than half empty

Be a good listener & a kind person

  • Smile
  • Compliment people
  • People will never forget how you make them feel about themselves — Feeling of importance
  • When you talk a lot, you only repeat what you know, being a good listener is a very precious, rare trait nowadays

Be willing to go above and beyond

  • The best employees are those who are willing to put in extra effort when needed, whether that means staying late to finish a project or taking on a challenging assignment, etc

Be adaptable to change

  • Many people fear change, that’s fine and normal
  • It’s okay to fear change but it’s not okay to resist it
  • Resisting change is a cultural killer
  • If whatever is happening around you is unsuitable, don’t resist it, better leave

Be hearty in your appreciation, generous in your appraisals, and flexible

  • Don’t seek to take credit alone, share it genuinely
  • Give and receive feedback openly
  • Be as flexible as possible — what goes around comes around

By following these tips, you can:

  1. Become a valuable member of your team and a solid asset to any company
  2. Run 10x faster
  3. Become unique and inspirational
  4. Get some wins in life
  5. Write successful stories
  6. Look back and see lots of accomplishments
  7. Be hardly forgotten, compromised, and taken for granted
  8. Maintain a positive growth mindset
  9. Become the employee of the year
  10. Reach your “beast mode” at work and perform at your best

Long story short

Know well my friend that at any company, there should be a 10%-80%-10% percentile of talents, the top, the mid, and the low. Again, I believe that no one doesn’t want to be among the top 10 percentile of their company and experience such gratitude! And again, you should earn it! You should be unique in order to reach that level! You should set yourself apart, and that won’t just happen by only you being technically talented, anyone could learn how to be technically capable of getting the job done with high quality but the idea remains in the other aspects of life and how important it is!

Just remember that unlocking your beast mode along with being among the best talents is a choice!
